CRITICAL NEED PROGRAM

When a child is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, the cost of healthcare can quickly lead to choices that will leave a family scrambling for options. Co-pays, prescriptions, hospital stays, surgeries, treatments, and procedures are just a few of the many expenses that families must face. The average family is only a few paychecks away from financial hardship, and the cost of navigating through a life-threatening illness can quickly bankrupt families.

The Critical Need Program assists eligible families with the cost of housing, utilities, transportation, medical equipment, and basic necessities. The assistance allows the parents and guardians to focus on what matters... the health of their child.

“Each time my son was in the hospital for cancer treatment; it always shocked my husband and me how much money we spent on food. The hospitals provided my son with three meals a day, but he and I were on our own. Often due to the chemotherapy side effects, my son wouldn’t eat the meals provided and would request something else. The cost of food was an enormous expense when we were not at our local hospital, and I was unable to make home-cooked meals. During one of my son’s more lengthy treatments in Miami, I added up receipts from the cost of food, which included the meals I was able to cook in the hospital microwave. In just 25 days, we spent over $1400 on food alone. That was for two adults and one child who hardly ate for ten of those days.” - Laurie Strand, Jupiter

“Our son Miles was born with Cystic Fibrosis and had to have a Bronchoscopy recently. When my husband and I were told what we’d have to pay out-of-pocket, we did not know how we would find the funds. All we knew is that our boy had to have this invasive procedure. After some research, we decided to reach out to Chasin A Dream Foundation. They made sure we had enough to cover the hefty hospital co-pay. When the day arrived, we didn’t have to worry about money - we got to focus on Miles. Thank you from the bottom of our lungs.”
