Gabriel L.

Gabriel Levi "Angel Eyes" was born with Bilateral Retinoblastoma.

When Gabriel was 2 months old his mother noticed a flash of light in his right eye while they was sitting in the dark getting ready for a nap.

For 3 months afterwards, she did research and asked the pediatrician several times to please look at his eyes to which the pediatrician refused. Finally after Gabriel’s father demanded assistance, they were given a blank referral to see an ophthalmologist.

Gabriel's mom found Dr Simons and within minutes of his check up, the doctor confirmed that he may have Retinoblastoma.

We made the trip to Boston Palmer in Miami that same day and that started his medical journey. He has been a patient at Holtz Children Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and Sylvester Cancer Center (Alex Place). He has had 3 rounds of chemotherapy, several laser surgeries, many EUAs, and poked countless times for blood works. Through all of this, he has not cried once. Not even as a baby. We have been told several times by doctors and nurses that Gabriel’s strength at his young age helped them be stronger for their patients. Not only that, but he has not lost and hair during his chemo journey. They often tug at it during visits expecting it to fall off but til this day it hasn't. That's why I refuse to cut his hair. If chemo didn't take it, neither will I.

Today Gabriel is "cancer safe" and is doing what any typical 7 year old loves to do. He has a big imagination and loves the arts. He loves to sing, play instruments, and he's a great actor. He is not shy about educating people about his condition and making people laugh.
