Sophia ❤️ how she likes to write her name, always with a heart. She is an extremely loving and joyful girl who loves being surrounded by people who love her.

In October 2023, Sophia began to get sick frequently, complaining of leg pain accompanied by flu-like symptoms and fever. When we took her to the hospital, we received devastating news that 💔 💔 💔 💔 shook our family (mother, father, and her sister Stephanie). We were confronted with the diagnosis of B-ALL leukemia. From that moment on, we united in love and faith, believing in God's power in her life.

The beginning of the treatment was extremely painful and difficult for her. Accustomed to a life without medicine, Sophia suddenly found herself surrounded by medications, so many that I, as her mother, could barely keep track. We stayed with her in the hospital for 10 days, surrounded by the love of family, friends, and the family of God.

During the treatment, we witnessed divine blessings manifested through the doctors, nurses, medications, and all the support we received. Each hospitalization was a battle; Sophia suffered panic attacks, and all I could do was hold her and pray for God to calm her. Sophia is 9 years old, she doesn't fully understand the treatment she is going through, despite our attempts to explain it with love. She wonders why she has to go through all this. My deepest wish is that the pain of this treatment does not leave marks on her life, but that she recognizes God's mercy, which blesses our lives through the people He places in our path. Sophia has many dreams to fulfill. She wants to be a police officer, desires to makeover her room (we hope one day to have our own house to make this happen), wants more dogs, same breed she already has, wishes for a cruise trip, and dreams of traveling overseas, and many more. She is full of dreams and goals!

After 9 months of intensive physical and emotional exhausting treatment, Sophia started the less intensive treatment, the maintenance phase. She is happy to stay at home more often, reducing the doctors visits for check up. We have faith that this will be a better phase for her and that soon she will feel well enough to return to school and make new friends. We eagerly await the day she will ring the bell, free from this diagnosis, because we believe this disease does not belong to her.
